Potassium Compound Solution
- This potassium solution is an equal mixture of potassium acetate, potassium monophosphate, and potassium gluconate
- The 100 gm bottle is dissolved in 1 quart of distilled water and stored in a dark glass bottle and kept in a dark place or refrigerator
- This medication rises cellular potassium, restores normal cell metabolism, and reduces edemas
- Prescriptions may range from 1-4 tsp in up to 10 juices
Potassium Compound
- Caution should be exercised in supplementing with potassium if there are kidney abnormalities, gastritis, nausea or GI bleeding problems.
- It may be contraindicated in some heart conditions and if taking a potassium sparing diuretic for high blood pressure
- Monitor serum potassium levels
Thyroid is an animal product
- Contains T3 and T4 extracted from porcine thyroid glandular tissue
- Animal protein is negligible
Thyroid
- Desiccated porcine thyroid gland (prescription)
- Used to increase the body’s metabolic rate
- Increased energy becomes available for cellular energy needs, including resistance and immunity
- Caution with high blood pressure, rapid heart rate, anxiety, insomnia and other cardiac problems
- Monitor serum T3, T4 and TSH
- Up to 5 grains a day
Lugol’s Solution ½ Strength
- Lugol’s (10gm KI and 5gm I in 200 ml solution)
- Delivers iodine to cells and helps restore electrical potentials and cell activity
- Promotes synthesis of thyroid hormone to help increase cellular oxidation
- 1 drop of ½ strength equals 3.125mg iodine
- Prescribed as 1-3 drops 1-6 times daily in OJ and carrot juice – Never in green juice
- Caution with Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, iodine, allergy and heavy metal toxicity
Niacin
- Acts as a vasodilator increasing circulation
- Increases capacity for cellular oxidation
- Raises depleted liver stores of glycogen
- Prescribed up to 6 times a day with meals and food when possible to avoid uncomfortable flushing effects
- Do not use slow release or non- flushing type
- Do not use if there is bleeding, gastric ulcers, during menses, with steroid therapy or blood thinning agents
- Caution with liver disease
Acidol
- Betaine HCL and Pepsin
- Assists protein digestion in the stomach and will aid the digestion of the high volume of juices
- Many patients have low stomach acidity
- Caution with gastritis, ulcers, esophageal problems, and blood thinning medications
- 1-2 before each meal
Pancreatin is an animal product
- Derived from pork
- Best way Dr. Gerson found to assist in digestion
- Can substitute plant based and papaya enzymes, but cannot guarantee if they work exactly the same as pancreatin
Pancreatin
- Pancreatic enzymes support the digestive system
- Three 325mg tabs are taken at the end of each meal and again at 4:30 pm
- For excess gas additional enzymes (1200 mg tablets) are given between meals
- Contraindicated in sarcoma patients
Liver caps are an animal product
- Helps provide trophic (nutritional building) factors to the liver
- No substitutes for the liver tissue
- Milk thistle can support the liver
Liver Capsules
- Desiccated liver capsules are taken to provide nutritional factors to the liver
- They are taken with carrot juice -2 caps three times daily
- If not taking the carrot juice, they can be taken with a little distilled water or tea or another carrot apple juice
- Can be increased to 9 per day if anemic or without crude liver injection
CoQ-10
- CoQ10 is plentiful in raw liver juice, so it is given to replenish the lack of this
- It is also a good antioxidant and important in helping energy production in the cell
- Dose is up to 300 mg a day in divided doses with meals. Start slow with 50 to 60 mg increments. It can sometimes cause heart irregularities
- Should not contain Vit E or soy
Crude Liver Injection
- Injectable forms of B-12 and crude liver as well as needles and syringes are prescription items
B-12
- B-12 supports formation and maturation of red blood cells, platelets and granulocytes
- The Gerson diet is low in B-12 and many patients with low digestive capacity are unable to absorb this nutrient
Protocol for Administering B-12
There are three options for supplementing B12:
- Orally take 1000 mcg daily at the beginning of the program. Methylcobalamin is the best absorbed
- Injecting 1cc of B12 weekly using either hydroxycobalamin, methycobalamin or cyanocobalamin
- If crude liver is available, combine with 1cc of B-12 daily
Flax Seed Oil
- Contains omega 3 essential fatty acids
- Attract oxygen at the cell membrane and transports O2 into the cell
- Detoxifies fat soluble toxins
- Removes excess cholesterol
- 2 TBS a day for the first month, then reduced to 1 TBS a day
Selenium
- It increases endogenous glutathione and is a very important support for the immune system. It is given 200 mcg a day
- Also helps with heavy metal detox
Milk Thistle
- An herb which supports the liver
- Especially useful for those who have used chemotherapy, or have had other drug or chemical exposures
- Use an extract standardized to 80% silymarin
- Typical dosage is 250 mg twice daily between meals
Inflazyme Forte or Wobenzyme
- This supplement is added in some cases. It contains proteolytic enzymes to help breakdown tumor mass
- It can digest the outer coating of the cancer cell so that the immune system can recognize it
- Taken between meals or not sooner than 30 minutes before meals three times daily
- At clinic- 3 caps 30 minutes before each meal
